Not only is FEGLI confusing, but it also depends on what government agency you work for. Many paystubs are radically different. Some have codes. Many do not and some have confusing legends that are not even named properly. For example:
You may see the following on your paystub:
FEGLI - Regular actually means Basic (this is default and you don't have to choose anything)
FEGLI - Additional actually means check off Option B
FEGLI - Optional actually means check off Option A
FEGLI - Family actually means check off Option C
As you can see, FEGLI is very confusing and the government is not making it any easier.
